Tecno Spark Go First Impressions: A strong entry-level smartphone available offline

TECNO Spark Go First Impressions - A strong entry-level smartphone

Tecno, owned by Transsion Holdings, yesterday launched two new smartphones in its Spark series. These are Tecno Spark Go (Price Rs 5,499) and Tecno Spark 4 Air (Price Rs 6,999). The former is available online, and comes with entry-level specs and features. After spending some time with it, here are my first impressions of the new Tecno Spark Go.

Design and performance
The Tecno Spark Go is a good looking device despite its plastic body. Unlike many phones these days, the back panel on this new smartphone is removable. Buyers can choose from two color options, including Nebula Black and Royal Purple.

On the front, you get a 6.1-inch dot-notched display with generous bezels around the screen. The display comes with HD + (1560 × 720 pixels) resolution, and 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. Notch has an embedded front camera. In my brief time with the device, I found the performance of the Spark Go decent, but it was not very good.

On the right side of the phone you will find a power button and a volume rocker. The left and top however are left blank. Below you will find a 3.5 mm audio jack and a micro-USB port. Moving backwards, you'll find the camera module on the top-left corner and the speaker grill on the bottom.

Specifications and Camera
The entry-level Tecno smartphone packs the MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core SoC under the hood. There is only one version to choose from, which includes 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM. You can expand the memory up to 256GB using a microSD card. On the software front, the device runs Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box wrapped under the company's HiOS 5.0.

Talking about cameras, you get a 5-megapixel AI-supported camera for the selfie. There is also an LED flash for photo and video in low light. There are various modes to choose from, including Video, AI CAM, Beauty, Bokeh, AR Shot and Panorama. At the rear, there's an 8-megapixel AI-supported camera that is helped by dual-flash. Looking at the price tag, both cameras look decent. Until we review the smartphone extensively, I will preserve my decisions.
Spark Go is supported by a removable battery of 3,000mAh. For security, you get an AI-based face unlock feature. However there is no fingerprint scanner onboard. It has three card slot built-in. Two are for SIM cards, while the third is for microSD cards.

Techno Spark Go First Impressions
On paper, the Tecno Spark Go seems a good choice for its price tag of Rs 5,499. There is a lot to like about the device. But it is too early to say whether the device is worth your money or not. To further entice buyers, Tecno is also offering Bluetooth earphones worth Rs 799 for free. We will be reviewing the smartphone soon, so be prepared for it.
