Plans, Prices, Set Top box - JioFiber broadband launching this week
The Indian technology scene has been constantly busy with back-to-back launches of new phones, laptops and telecommunications services. However, the biggest of all is Reliance's JioFiber service in the second half. Being in beta testing as Jio GigaFiber for almost a year, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, finally announced the major subscription features. And within a few days, you will be able to book the service for yourself.
JioFiber is more than just another broadband service for households. Under the JioFiber tag, Reliance is clubbing its broadband, DTH service and landline connections to consumers. In addition, Jio is also trying to change the way people subscribe to local cable operators as well as gain access to modern entertainment services. Additionally, JioFiber is also looking to encourage more homes to adopt smart and connected ecosystems.
If you are interested in going for JioFiber services, here are some things you need to know.
JioFiber Broadband Plans and Prices
At the Reliance AGM event on August 12, Jio announced the price range for all its plans for JioFiber membership. Jio will offer monthly as well as annual plans, later known as Jio Forever Plans. For monthly plans, Jio will charge a minimum of Rs 700 per month and go up to Rs 10,000 per month. The prices of the annual plans have not been announced yet.
When it comes to JioFiber plans, subscribers will get a minimum network speed of 100Mbps and with more expensive plans, they can expect speeds of up to 1Gbps. Jio has not detailed any plans yet, but you can expect a base plan of Rs 700 per month to offer 100Mbps speed with 100GB minimum data allocation.
JioFiber DTH TV Services
JioFiber customers will be able to use DTH TV on their connection. Jio will sell a set top box that will be able to use services from local cable operators such as Hathaway, DEN Networks and others. There is no information on how billing will occur for these DTH services, but it is expected that it will fall under the same bill as broadband service.
The Jio set-top box will stream content in 4K resolution and will also offer several multimedia features including gaming, mixed reality applications and video calling. Subscribers will be able to access all apps of Jio like JioTV, JioCinema, JioSaavn and the like. It was also stated that Jio would allow access to popular third-party OTT platforms that would rely on JioFiber's broadband service for streaming. For video calling, customers have to get a camera for their TV and they can talk to four people simultaneously.
So far, Jio has not announced the price of the set-top box console as well as the mixed reality headset.
JioHome Phone Fixed Line Service
JioFiber service will also provide a free landline connection. Called JioHome Phone, the landline service will offer free voice calls to any number in the country. Even for international calls, Jio will offer plans with special plans to the US and Canada with discounted call rates and even unlimited calling. Keep in mind that the landline connection does not come with a handset and therefore, you will have to purchase a landline phone to access the service. If you are using the Jio GigaFiber service under the preview offer, then you already have the service available before launch.
JioFiber Welcome Offer
At the time of launch, Jio will have special offers to attract more customers. First, installation fees will be waived for the first few months and customers will only have to pay the security deposit fee. For those wanting to get the full entertainment package, the JioFiber Welcome offer comes with more benefits. Subscribers have to opt for the Jio forever plan and when they do, Jio will give them a 4K set top box with a full HD TV or home PC.
